The Different Path
“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

It is supremely important that we understand that we are all different. We have all had different experiences and so we each have different needs, different desires, and different pathways. In life, we all walk our own journeys. Yet, we have this deep-rooted idea that in order to live a ‘worthy’ life, we need to follow the path that is already set for us. We are urged to stand out and be great all while keeping our head down. To conform to the system and play our role yet change it and improve the world. As life goes on, we often find it getting harder and harder to stick to living a life that doesn’t feel like ours. It creates longing and so we try to find external pleasures to validate us. We idolise the media and wish that we could have what others have. Even though the proof that it can be done is right in front of us, the almost inherent ideology that whatever that is isn’t a real outcome overpowers any hope that we might have. So, we continue to live that unfulfilled life sometimes even criticising others for having what we think we can’t have.
I feel that each and every one of us has a path that we align with. We feel these pathways when we align with ourselves, when we take the time to truly think for ourselves without the pressure of others telling us what we should do or want. Now when it comes down to it, all of these pathways come from different desires that derive from these two factors: survival and creation.
SURVIVAL
Money
Security
Validation
Lust
These are the main factors that we desire in life, and they extend to our careers. We need money to buy necessities, feel comfortable, and buy nice things. We want to feel secure, safe, and stable. We want to make our family and friends proud, our enemies jealous, and to be admired by people. We want to feel desired by others and experience pleasure.
In pursuit of these desires, we try to achieve our dream life whilst living the opposite, often leaving us feeling stuck or confused.
What if I told you that you could have all that PLUS your dream life? What if you could do anything in the world and meet these desires just in a slightly different way?
Let’s explore the creation aspect.
CREATION
Wealth
Energy
Passion
Love
These are some of the factors that define creation. Not just having money but being wealthy in the sense that our lives are enriched by everything we do and feel. Feeling creative energy and flow running through our veins, being passionate about what we love and extending that love not just to the people around us, but humanity as a whole and ourselves.
When we live in survival mode, we live in stress. There is the constant feeling that we do not have control over our lives and thus we must do whatever it takes to keep it all together.
The truth is that you DO have control over your life. It’s hard to see that when 95% of your life is led by your subconscious. You live your past every day. You live yesterday over and over again and hope that tomorrow will finally come. But freedom from this repetitive lifestyle will not come from doing the same thing, choosing the same path.
So, how do we break free from the cycle? We need to move past what we believe we are, become aware of our power and lean into what it is that we truly want.
The pathways we are usually meant to go down come from our trauma, experiences, and who we are. When we experience discomfort especially as kids or even witness it, we feel the need to comfort others. What if you started embodying what you want others to feel as a result of your work?
Like I said, we feel closer to our true paths when we align with our true selves. By leaning into who we truly want to be, we attract others.
By niching down your work and being true to yourself instead of trying to relate to everyone, you ultimately attract more people. Like art, when you are able to feel the artist through their work, feel what they are conveying, their pain, their desire, their life, you may feel more drawn. You feel special; you feel a connection because you either find a piece yourself in their work or feel like they are speaking to you and only you.
So, whether you want to be an artist, a writer, a singer, a dancer, an entrepreneur, a leader, a scientist, a teacher, you CAN and you WILL find success when you are truly in alignment with what you ACTUALLY want. You CAN make money doing what you love. Let me tell you a secret about sales. It’s not about you. It’s about your audience. I can absolutely guarantee you that there are many people out there who want you and your work and find value in it. And you know what? It is OKAY to be worth something and value yourself accordingly. The right people will come when you are authentic to who you are.
If you want to lead your dream life, you have to have the courage to constantly create the unknown. It is okay to not know exactly what you are doing or where you are going. The important part is that you GO. You show up for yourself no matter how scary it may be. You are not alone. I don’t believe in all that “you are the only one who will be there for yourself” or “you walk your path alone” BS. Yes, you walk your OWN path, but that doesn’t mean that you are alone. It is with the support of a wider community that you are able to help each other grow and thrive. There are people, who I like to call your soul family, out there, so don’t be afraid to reach out and connect with others. Surround yourself with people who see your vision and support you. Support each other and grow TOGETHER.
