The Quest for Success

“If you want something you've never had, you must be willing to do something you've never done.” ― Thomas Jefferson

It’s the 21st century. Humanity and the way society functions has evolved so much in the last few decades. How did we get here? Like you’ve probably learnt in school, evolution occurs via natural selection. A population must have variation and the ones with favoured traits survive. Society functions like this too. Change happens when people have an opinion, when they speak up, when they discover new perspectives and ways to approach different situations. But this kind of evolution doesn’t occur over millions of years. Like I said, we have evolved a lot in just a few decades. Tradition and culture are of course important to maintain. It’s how many communities connect and honour their past, but it’s also important to acknowledge that times are changing and that’s a good thing. It’s the hard truth but tomorrow will be different from today even if it’s hard to notice and as such we cannot stay stuck in the old system. Like the quote of this article says,

“If you want something you've never had, you must be willing to do something you've never done.”
Out with the Old and in with the New

To help you understand here’s a mind map for the old system and the new one. One of the most revolutionary inventions humanity has created is technology. It’s a way to reach people all over the world, to spread a message, to reach out to clients, to meet new people, and much more. It’s how I am communicating with you right now. In order to progress and find success, we have to be open to different ways of doing things.

Above is a diagram of the rite of passage most of us are still focused on. I have witnessed this strategy play out for many and as such I have witnessed their struggle. For many, our parents rose from nothing. That is why they try so hard to ensure that we are successful by making sure we do well in school and get a university degree. But this pathway is not as stable as many think. This is not to say it hasn’t worked at all but with the rise of the cost of living, technology, and AI, the need for most jobs is decreasing.

This is why I preach that passion is so important in your career because it paves the way for success not only in your job but various areas of your life.

The very first step in building the career of your dreams and achieving your life goals is to know something about something. Turn it into something bigger.

Start a blog, a YouTube channel, become a content creator, create online courses, teach classes, create products.

Knowing something doesn’t have to be from a university degree; it can come from experience or even your own personal story. Think of something you’re passionate about, something you could talk about for ages. I guarantee you there are people in the world who want to hear what you have to say or teach.

Discover what you truly want at your core. Fight for it. Find new ways to get there. Everyone’s path is their own. Even if you look up to certain people, you have your own life. No exact life is repeated. That is why you cannot just choose the pathway everyone else has and expect a different result. Your story is one written by you so take responsibility for it.

“Two roads diverged in a wood and I - I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” – Robert Frost (The Road Not Taken).
